My Sewing Machine and Me
My sewing machine is a really basic one but it's perfect for beginners just like me! Singer is a very well known brand, which is great, as if I need to get any parts then they should be relatively easy to find.
It took me a couple of hours to set up my sewing machine, even though it did come with a manual, I actually found YouTube was a lot more useful to use. I am more of a visual learner, which is why I think I can follow instructions to a degree but then I tend to make them up as a go along. And then once I've attempted what I need to do, I can then go back to the instructions and it makes more sense.
It's funny looking back at the silly mistakes I made when first using my sewing machine. Like it took me ages to insert the bobbin and then getting the upper thread to loop with the bobbin thread. I went round in circles and couldn't understand why it wasn't working. I then realised it was because I hadn't actually threaded the upper thread through the needle! (I have actually got a Masters degree - somehow!)
It also took me a little while to figure out that I needed the metal foot down on my work, in order to make straight lines. At the time I was thinking wow it must takes ages to learn how to sew straight!
I am very happy with the sewing machine I have and would definitely recommend it, if you were thinking about started to sew as well. It is available to purchase on the Hobby Craft website and there are some really good reviews on there.
