Pinterest has been the perfect place to get ideas on what to make for my wedding. One of the first things I came across were the personalised wedding hangers for your bridesmaids. I know you can buy these from certain websites, but I really wanted to have a go at making them myself.

All that was required were wooden coat hangers (which I purchased for super cheap from eBay), a paint pen, and ribbon!




I decided to write on there their name, their role and the date of my wedding so that they can keep it as a keepsake (if they want too!). 

I struggled with the paint pen a bit, getting the white to come out onto the wood. But I found that after I let it dry and went back over it, the colour came out more.

They might not be as good as the professional ones, but I like the personal touch they have. It's nice to spend time on hand making items for the people you love.

I've been really keen to give the hanging heart a try. I bought some heart fabric from eBay and thought I could try and make my close friends a cute hanging heart in preparation for Valentine's day!


I watched a YouTube tutorial on this and I thought it looked super easy, but with my first attempt I ended up with quite a funny shaped heart! I think this might be because I drew the template of the heart out myself and so the two bits of fabric didn't match each other when I put them together.




I really love the learning process of sewing! I hope that I will be able to get really good with these hanging hearts. I think they are great decoration/gift item!

I tried making this again and this time used a proper template and I think the end result is a definite improvement!

In my last post I mentioned that I was going to remake the bag tidy that I learnt to do in my first sewing class. With this bag tidy I changed the material I used and it is a little smaller than the original bag tidy too. Instead of the cord, I used ribbon (this was more to do with not having any cord at the time!)


I found it a lot easier making this bag tidy this time around. The only part I struggled with was using the machine to do a zig-zag stitch over the elastic (for the part at the bottom). I decided it was easier to hand stitch this, although I could have just tied them in a knot.




Anyway, I am very happy with the bag tidy I have made and I am sure it will be used a lot!

This week I attended my first sewing class. This class was intended for beginners and it was such a great experience. I have learnt to be a lot more confident with my sewing machine. We learnt how to make hems and seams and at the end of lesson we were able to make a lovely bag tidy. I plan to remake my bag tidy at a later point, just so I can practice some of the techniques I learnt during the lesson.


Today's little project I set myself, was to make a place mat. I thought this would be a good item to make, as it incorporates some of the techniques I used during my beginners lesson, like making a hem.



This was pretty simple to make really. The only difficult bit was getting the corners to meet nicely. Next time I need to make sure that the fabric I use is perfectly square and perhaps make the hem a little bigger!


Oh and also, actually make it a size that can be used with normal plates!

Hello and welcome to KTKat Kreations!

I am relatively new to sewing but I am loving the journey I am on so far! For my first sewing project, I decided to make this lovely, Cath Kidston inspired pot holder. (In one of my beginners books, it was recommended to start with this sort of project to get used to sewing in straight lines, and using different stitches on the machine).


I chose two completely different fabrics (so if you get bored with one side, you can flip it over!) and there is soft padding inside, to give the pot holder more structure. All the fabric used is machine washable.

I decided that it would be quite nice to have another one of these, but in a slightly smaller size, just so I can have something I can rest spoons on after making tea! So this is another little item I made in a similar design, again with soft padding inside to soak up any water.


Note: The pot holder should have had a little ribbon on the side, so that when not in use it can be hung up. This is where I learnt that I actually needed to sew the fabric inside out and then flip it around, so you can get some nice edges like the second item has.
